The Pinellas Market of HCA Florida Healthcare is proud to announce that Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Regan Newman and Paramedic Lauren Brennan from Sunstar Paramedics have been nominated for the prestigious HCA All-Star Award. Each quarter, the four HCA Florida hospitals in Pinellas County - HCA Florida Largo Hospital, Northside Hospital, Pasadena Hospital, and St. Petersburg Hospital - recognize emergency medical services (EMS) professionals who go above and beyond to serve their community.

During a 'code gray' safety situation involving a patient suspected of overdose, Newman and Brennan demonstrated the highest standards of healthcare professionalism. Upon arrival at HCA Florida Northside Hospital, the patient’s behavior escalated, posing a threat to themselves and others. Newman and Brennan's immediate and decisive actions ensured the safety of all individuals involved. They swiftly relocated another patient to prevent potential harm and effectively communicated with hospital staff to manage the situation.

Their calm demeanor and effective crisis management not only prevented further escalation but also earned high praise from the hospital staff. This showcased the invaluable role of Sunstar Paramedics in collaborative healthcare practices. Their commitment to excellence and unwavering dedication to patient care embodies the values celebrated by the HCA Florida Healthcare All-Star award.

EMT Regan Newman, who joined Sunstar Paramedics in November 2020, and Paramedic Lauren Brennan, who started in April 2022, have consistently demonstrated outstanding performance and service. Their actions during this incident reflect the highest standards of professionalism and compassion in healthcare.

"We are honored to have such dedicated and professional team members,” said Jeremy Tinter, director of operations, Sunstar EMS. “The recognition by HCA Florida Healthcare highlights the incredible contributions of our paramedics in ensuring patient safety and upholding the highest standards of care."
