Nurse earns prestigious award after caring for those who truly know care
Priscilla Amy Lynn, RN is a rapid response nurse at HCA Florida Blake Hospital and a former DAISY Award recipient. The award is an international recognition that honors extraordinary nurses for their skills and for providing compassionate care. So, when Lynn’s friend was a patient at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital, she knew the outstanding qualities a nurse needs to have to earn this distinction. She found them in Kasey McCarty, RN, who works in surgical services.
Recently, Priscilla Amy Lynn returned to the hospital to help present Kasey McCarty, RN, with the DAISY Award. In her nomination, Lynn wrote that she was a medical proxy for a friend, also a fellow nurse, whom McCarty was caring for. She wrote, “…my friend was very ill, yet Kasey approached her care with remarkable skill, compassion, and attentiveness… She explained every step, answered questions thoroughly, and made sure the patient felt safe and secure. As a practitioner myself, I would be honored to work alongside Kasey. She is the kind of nurse any physician would be grateful to have by their side — sharp, attentive, compassionate, and unwaveringly patient-focused.”
Kasey McCarty has been a nurse for 15 years. She became a nurse because her mother was a nurse, and when her father was diagnosed with cancer, she knew this was the path to follow. “I wanted to make a difference and help people. This was so nice for Priscilla to nominate me, but this is just what we do every day,” said McCarty.
