HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital has recognized two outstanding nurses and a patient care technician for their work treating patients and outstanding medical skills. The awards were given during annual Nurses Week. The colleagues recognized are:
- Nurse of the Year — Herrmann Bozer, RN- regularly receives notes of thanks and recognition from patients for his compassion and skill. He also has a passion for teaching student nurses and is known for the time he invests in explaining and demonstrating procedures so the next generation of healthcare providers can learn. He is a trusted member of his team and a respected leader in the endoscopy field. He has been a nurse for 29 years and specializes in esophageal manometry, a diagnostic test of the esophagus. He has performed more than 1,000 procedures and is one of a few nurses in our community with this training. “I like taking care of people, teaching them about their conditions and helping them through the treatment and recovery process,” said Bozer.
- New Nurse of the Year — Brennan Maguire, RN- in just his first year as a nurse, he is already recognized by his team in the emergency room for his clinical skills, especially in high risk situations like strokes and neurological care. He teaches other nurses and seeks out new challenges. Patients recognize him for his compassion and quality care. He received the most nominations of any nurse. “I love working in critical care and thinking through complex situations and being there for people when it really counts,” said Maguire.
- Support Person of the Year — Antonio Gonzalez, Lead PCT- is known for the personal connection he makes with patients in the medical-surgical unit. Patients comment they feel seen, heard and safe in his care. He has a strong work ethic and is a leader at the hospital as the chair of the PCT Council. He has worked in healthcare for 10 years and is currently studying to become a registered nurse. “I am a nurse because I get to meet all sorts of people and it is rewarding to play a small part in their lives,” said Gonzalez.
