Rebecca's story
For Rebecca, a recent patient on the Surgical Progressive Care Unit (SPCU), HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital feels like home. Born and raised in Fort Pierce, her family has trusted the hospital for generations. “My whole family, from my mother and her brothers to my grandparents, has come here,” she shared. Rebecca first came to HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital a few years ago for a major surgery following a cancer diagnosis. “I had to have a full hysterectomy, and never did I have a moment of pain,” she recalled. “The surgeons, the entire staff was remarkable. Always right there.” She was so impressed that she sent a big basket of flowers afterward, a sign of gratitude that blossomed each time she returned for care.
What stands out most for Rebecca is the staff’s teamwork. With nearly two decades in law enforcement, she knows the value of camaraderie. “I mean, that is so important in work — that everybody gets along,” she said. “You don’t hear griping in the halls. I’ve never, ever heard that from any staff member.” For someone who spent years managing teams, the harmony speaks volumes. “Their positivity really does make a difference.” Rebecca compared the hospital’s culture to the trust and cooperation she experienced in law enforcement. “That’s the way law enforcement works together: we had to trust each other. And that’s the way it is here with the hospital staff.”
Her praise didn’t stop at professionalism: “Every time I come into the hospital, everybody is so nice and kind. It’s always, ‘What do you need?’ They take care of everything.” For Rebecca, that visible commitment to patient well-being makes the hospital feel like family. “You’ve got a great staff. And they do a great job.
