Gloria's story

Currently undergoing treatment for congestive heart failure, Gloria has faced multiple hospital visits and challenges in her recovery. But through it all, the care team at HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital has been a source of strength and support.
Joanne speaks with heartfelt appreciation about the care her mother has received. She says they love the personal attention from all the clinicians and colleagues, and that “they go above and beyond.” That sentiment is reflected throughout their experience, from emergency visits to long-term recovery.
One memorable moment came when Gloria was visiting her husband but began feeling unwell herself. She was reluctant to go to the ER, so Joanne leaned on the trusted care team for guidance. “I stopped by the desk and said, ‘Would you look at my mom and tell me what you think?’ The nurse agreed with me, called down and said, ‘Gloria, you can go visit your husband and say hi, but emergency is expecting you in ten minutes,’” she recalled. Joanne says having access to that level of proactive, personalized care has made all the difference.
She described the hospital’s atmosphere as “small-town hospitality in a large city,” where colleagues know Gloria by name, greet her warmly and treat her like family. “Even if a nurse is busy, another is glad to step in. Everyone here is so kind and ready to help,” she said.
The emotional support extended beyond Gloria’s care. When her husband passed away in hospice, the staff remembered him not just as a patient, but as a man they had grown close to. Joanne said, “They all expressed their condolences and shared memories of their conversations with him about his life and hobbies. It just showed us how much they really do care.”
Physical therapy has also played a vital role in Gloria’s recovery. Joanne explained that this is the third time her mother is learning to walk again, and the team has been instrumental in helping her regain strength and confidence. Joanne says the whole care team’s dedication has made a lasting impression on both mother and daughter. As Gloria continues her journey toward recovery, Joanne remains grateful for the people who have walked alongside them every step of the way. “I love this hospital. And I love the people.”
