Stroke care milestone at HCA Florida Bayonet Point hospital
Hudson, FL — HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital is proud to announce a significant achievement in its stroke care program: the successful completion of over 700 stroke thrombectomies since the program’s launch in 2019. This life-saving procedure, which removes clots from the brain’s blood vessels during an acute stroke, has helped hundreds of patients avoid long-term disability and regain their quality of life.
Thrombectomy is a critical intervention for patients experiencing an acute ischemic stroke. Without timely treatment, patients can suffer irreversible brain damage, leading to permanent physical or cognitive deficits. Every minute after a stroke, approximately 1.9 million neurons die, making rapid response and expert care essential.
“Our stroke team works with precision and urgency because we know that time is brain,” said Erin Rona, Interventional Radiology Supervisor at HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital. “When we perform a thrombectomy and restore blood flow — a process called reperfusion — we give patients a real chance at recovery.”
The hospital’s growing volume of stroke cases has allowed its team to continually refine their skills, improve door-to-reperfusion times, and deliver exceptional outcomes.
One such outcome involved a patient who arrived unable to speak or move one side of her body. After undergoing a stroke thrombectomy, she returned just two months later — walking and talking — to thank the team who helped save her life.
“This milestone is a testament to the extraordinary skill, dedication, and teamwork of our stroke program at HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital,” said Sally Seymour, CEO of HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital. “Performing over 700 thrombectomies since 2019 means hundreds of lives changed — and in many cases, saved. Our team’s commitment to rapid response and continued learning ensures that our community receives the highest level of stroke care when it matters most. We’re proud to be leaders in this space and even prouder of the people who make it possible.”
HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital remains committed to advancing stroke care, educating the community on stroke symptoms, and ensuring that every second counts when lives are on the line.
