South Tampa Hospital opens endocrine surgery research center

Tampa, FL  — HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital has launched the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery Research Center, expanding the hospital’s focus to include advancing medical innovation in endocrine tumor treatment through research. As one of the largest providers of adrenal, thyroid and parathyroid surgery in the country, the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery is uniquely positioned to improve patient outcomes through research.

“The Research Center will be a hub for endocrine tumor research, bridging science and patient care,” said Fabio Faucz, PhD, lead investigator for the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery Research Center. “Our goal is to bring innovative solutions from the lab to the bedside and ultimately enhance the quality of care for patients.”

The Center features a Biobank for tissue and fluid samples to support studies focused on biomarkers, diagnostics and treatment strategies aimed at improving prognoses and quality of life, according to Dr. Gary Clayman, Medical Director.

Stratakis, Director of the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery Research Center and former Senior Investigator. “This center will bring together leading researchers, clinicians and other partners who share a common goal: to advance medical science in ways that improve the lives of patients with endocrine tumors and their families.”

The Center joins more than 50 HCA Healthcare research sites, including nine in Florida, supported by the HCA Healthcare Research Institute, the clinical research arm of HCA Healthcare that drive breakthroughs and transform patient care.
