HCA Florida Lake City Hospital completes first vascular surgery

New procedure expands local access to lifesaving vascular care.

December 04, 2025

HCA Florida Lake City Hospital is proud to announce the completion of its first vascular surgery procedure, marking a significant advancement in the hospital’s ongoing efforts to expand specialized care for Columbia, Hamilton and Suwannee counties. The procedure, performed by the hospital surgical team and Dr. Elmer Croushore, a board-certified vascular surgeon at HCA Florida Lake City Hospital, provides access to vascular surgery for dialysis patients.

“Vascular surgery focuses on conditions that affect arteries, veins, and lymphatic system to restore proper blood flow and prevent serious complications,” said Dr. Croushore. “Many vascular conditions require timely intervention, and now dialysis patients can receive high-quality, specialized care without the burden of traveling long distances.”

“It’s a tremendous relief knowing we have a hospital right here in our community that delivers such high-quality care,” said Ray Judson, a Live Oak resident who was the first patient to receive this procedure at HCA Florida Lake City Hospital. “Every provider and member of the care team showed true commitment, taking the time to explain each step in detail so I felt fully informed and confident about my procedure.”

The vascular surgery was made possible through the hospital’s recent expansion, which included the construction of a two-story patient tower. This expansion has effectively doubled the footprint of the hospital’s surgical services, providing additional operating rooms and the enhanced infrastructure needed to offer more advanced procedures.

“This milestone reflects our commitment to continuously improve and expand the care we provide,” said Jill Adams, chief executive officer of HCA Florida Lake City Hospital. “The addition of vascular surgery for dialysis patients is a direct result of our investment in the expanded surgical unit, which has given us the space and resources to offer more lifesaving procedures for patients to easily access in the community where they live.”

The launch of vascular surgery aligns with HCA Florida Lake City Hospital’s commitment to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care close to home. The hospital will continue building upon this progress with additional service lines and specialties designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community.
