HCA Florida Healthcare colleagues in Southwest Florida support the community through their continued commitment to fighting food insecurity.

Dozens of volunteers from HCA Florida Englewood Hospital, HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital and HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital came together at All Faiths Food Bank on December 9 to present a $15,000 donation to help the organization provide food to families experiencing hunger this holiday season. The team also volunteered more than 50 hours sorting and packing food bags for area children.

“At HCA Florida Healthcare, above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life. All Faiths Food Bank shares a similar mission in caring for and improving life by combatting hunger in our community,” said Kelly Lindsay, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HCA Florida Englewood Hospital.

A mission-driven organization, HCA Florida Healthcare strives to address critical needs in the community. The organization has chosen fighting hunger as one of its priorities for improving health and wellness in the communities it serves.

“Many of our colleagues live and work in the same communities and neighborhoods as our patients. We want the same things that our patients want, healthier communities that lead to healthier tomorrows. I’m proud of our colleagues taking the time to volunteer to serve today,” said Michael Ehrat, Market CEO of HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital & HCA Florida Englewood Hospital.

All Faiths Food Bank is a partner of the national organization, Feeding America, who estimates that 47 million people in the United States face hunger, including 1 in 5 children.

“We know that many households in our region are food insecure, which means not having enough nutritious food to have an active, healthy life. This can lead to serious issues with people’s physical health, mental health, well-being and school or work. I’m proud of our team for showing up for our community this holiday season” said Joe Rudisill, CEO, HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital.

“While we have made significant strides, there is still much work ahead to ensure everyone in our community is fed,” said Nelle Miller, president and CEO of All Faiths Food Bank. “The reality that our neighbors are going hungry is both unimaginable and unacceptable. We appreciate the HCA Florida Healthcare team and other organizations that support us with financial contributions as well as their time volunteering. Through our collective efforts, we will persist in advocating for change – and continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we serve.”
