Spring, FL — HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital, Hernando County and community partners held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, June 5 to ceremoniously begin construction on a freestanding emergency department.

The HCA Florida Oak Hill South Emergency will be constructed on the property located at 11242 Spring Hill Drive in Spring Hill beginning later this summer.

The new $15.4 million emergency center is anticipated to open in 2026 and is a testament to the hospital's commitment to providing advanced and accessible healthcare services to meet the healthcare needs of the growing population in Hernando County and beyond.

“Offering additional emergency services in Hernando County will help support our growing community and care for residents who may need advanced care locally,” said Ken Wicker, CEO, HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital. “Our plans to build a new emergency room will help serve the southern part of the county with the same great service offered at Oak Hill Hospital.”

“We want to thank HCA for making such a significant investment in our community,” said Hernando County Commissioner Jeff Rogers. “We are lucky to be able to offer welcome HCA emergency services in south Hernando County. The new Emergency Room will extend the capabilities of HCA to care for patients who may need stroke, heart and other advanced therapies offered at HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital.”

The ceremony, held on June 5, featured comments from HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital CEO Ken Wicker, Hernando County Commissioner Jeff Rogers and HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital Emergency Services Medical Director Jonathan Schwadron, DO before the board of trustees, colleagues and special guests ceremonially broke ground on the future site of HCA Florida Oak Hill South Emergency.

This project connects the south Hernando County community to HCA Florida Healthcare services already available in Hernando County and across the state at more than 650 affiliated sites of care. The freestanding emergency room is the first in the county associated with HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital.
