Spring Hill, FL — Today, HCA Florida Healthcare leaders, first responders and partners celebrated a ribbon cutting to ceremoniously dedicate the completion of construction of HCA Florida Oak Hill South Emergency.
Construction on the $15.2 million emergency center at 11242 Spring Hill Drive in Spring Hill began in September 2025 to meet the health needs of Hernando County’s growing population. Once officially open, the 10,860-square-foot freestanding emergency department will provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, significantly expanding emergency services for thousands of residents each year.
“Our beautiful new free-standing emergency room represents a significant investment — $15.2 million — and an even greater commitment to meeting the needs of our fast-growing area,” said Ken Wicker, CEO, HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital. “HCA Florida Oak Hill South Emergency is designed to ensure residents and visitors have access to high quality emergency care, right where they live and work, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.” He continued, “Today symbolizes more than the opening of a new building. It represents access, preparedness, and a promise that as Hernando County continues to grow, HCA Florida Healthcare will continue to grow with it.”
The new facility will feature 11 treatment rooms (including a trauma bay) and offer full-service emergency care, including laboratory, x-rays, CT scanning and ultrasound capabilities for on-site diagnosis and faster treatment.
“Our new emergency room location will serve as an extension of HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital and will be staffed by board-certified and experienced emergency room physicians and nurses,” said Jonathan Schwadron, D.O., Medical Director of Emergency Services. “We will continue to work closely with the community’s first responders to provide the very best in emergency service to our patients.”
As with the hospital emergency room, patients are also welcome to walk in to seek care at the new site. There will be a seamless transition of care should someone need to be transferred to an inpatient hospital setting.
The new ER is slated to be officially open to care for the public as of July 19.
In addition to the health care services the new emergency room will provide, the financial health of the community will also be positively impacted.
“Hospitals are economic anchors in their communities, providing stability and job growth,” said Dr. Peter Tan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital. “Oak Hill Hospital currently employs more than 1600 colleagues and houses a medical staff of 800 physicians. This new facility will positively affect the local economy with the addition of 30 new jobs and will expand the economic imprint we have on Hernando County.”
In 2025, HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital paid $29.7 million in state and local taxes with a total economic impact of $272 million.
