Inverness, FL — HCA Florida Citrus Hospital broke ground Thursday on a new freestanding emergency room, HCA Florida Black Diamond Emergency, located on Norvell Bryant Highway.

The more than 10,000 square foot freestanding emergency department will be open 24/7 and feature 14 treatment spaces, offering full-service emergency care including laboratory, x-ray and CT capabilities.

The groundbreaking ceremony included remarks from HCA Florida Citrus Hospital CEO Lisa Nummi, Board Chair Deb Stanley and Emergency Room Medical Director Dr. Jason Grabert. Attendees included members of the hospital’s board of trustees, first responders, charity partners, community leaders and other guests.

“At HCA Florida Healthcare, we believe that access to high-quality care should never be a barrier. That’s why we’re so excited to extend our services even further into the community. Black Diamond Emergency will make it easier for all residents to get the emergency care they need, when they need it most,” said HCA Florida Citrus Hospital CEO Lisa Nummi. “This project is a testament to our commitment to Citrus County. It’s a reflection of our values, our vision, and our belief in the strength of this community. We’re proud to be part of it, and we’re honored to serve it. As we break ground today, we’re not just building a facility. We’re building trust. We’re building access. And we’re building a future where every resident of Citrus County knows that expert emergency care is just around the corner.”

The new $16 million emergency center is expected to open in early 2026 and marks the first freestanding emergency room in the county affiliated with HCA Florida Citrus Hospital.

“This facility represents more than bricks, mortar and technology. It represents our commitment to being there for our family, friends and neighbors when they need us most,” said HCA Florida Citrus Hospital board chair Deb Stanley. “This new ER is a promise — a promise that expert, compassionate care will be available right at your doorstep.”

This project connects a fast-growing part of Citrus County to HCA Florida Healthcare services already available across the state at more than 650 affiliated sites of care.
