When Rasheeda Fryson injured her arm during a fall, she looked for emergency care at a facility in her own neighborhood. The Southwood ER is the latest emergency care expansion project of Capital Hospital. The new freestanding ER allows the hospital to deliver critical emergency services in a convenient location for residents in Wakulla & Leon counties.

Rasheeda said that she knew her arm was injured but didn’t know if it was broken until the staff at the Southwood ER examined her. But that wasn’t the biggest problem she had that day. “I believe I had an allergic reaction to something I was given for pain,” she said. “I didn’t have any known allergies, so it was very unexpected. I couldn’t breathe and I was panicked. It was exhausting but the staff was so great. They stayed with me, encouraging and comforting me throughout the whole episode. I knew I was in good hands.”

Ultimately, Rasheeda was admitted for a brief stay at Capital Hospital but she says the way she was treated at Southwood ER has left a lasting impression. “I felt like the people involved in my care were very genuine. They were nice and gentle, and they went above and beyond in my care. They really exceeded my expectations.”

She also said the facility is clean and welcoming. The freestanding ER offers a full range of services for pediatric to adult patients. The staff can treat everything from sprains and fractures to heart attacks and strokes. It has a full-service lab, CT, trauma room and x-ray.

“It’s very convenient and when you arrive, they are quick to respond to your needs,” said Rasheeda. “It’s close to my home and work. I’ve been in other emergency rooms but there is something special about this ER. They made sure I knew I was in good hands with them. I definitely recommend the Southwood ER to all my friends and family. They really care about you as a person.”
