The Bailey Family — Part Two
Meet the Baily Family — Part 2
Serina and Larry Bailey had been on a heart-breaking pregnancy journey — although very difficult, they finally have their happy ending — twice! The couple is from Panama City, FL, where they endured two miscarriages. A few years ago, frustrated and feeling a lack of compassion and understanding locally, they decided to travel to Tallahassee, where they selected OB/GYN, Shawn Ramsey, DO, of HCA Florida Capital Hospital as their physician.
The Bailey’s said, “After consulting with Dr. Ramsey, we agreed to have a Transabdominal Cerclage performed, also known as a TAC.” A TAC is a small, extremely strong, woven synthetic band stitched high on the cervix. This band supports the full length of the cervix and resists the pressure the growing fetus places on it. In July 2022, Dr. Ramsey performed the procedure laparoscopically with the use of a surgical robot.
In Sept. 2022, to their delight, the Bailey’s got pregnant. The couple went on to say, “After the successful surgery, Dr. Ramsey made the process so easy, while being very sympathetic to the emotions we displayed over our pregnancy losses and his hands-on approach, we decided we wanted to stay with him throughout our pregnancy. He was with us during the entire journey with Trinity - from surgery, delivery, post-partum, and eventually a NICU stay.”
Now for part two! On Valentine’s Day 2025 – Larry, Serina and baby Trinity — welcomed another addition to the family — baby Serenity. Serenity was delivered by C-section, weighing in at 5 lbs., 13 oz., delivered by Dr. Ramsey. The TAC procedure that Dr. Ramsey placed during Serina’s first pregnancy remained in place and played a vital role in the success of this latest pregnancy.
Larry and Serina said, “We are incredibly grateful to have had Dr. Ramsey and the HCA Florida Capital Hospital team by our side once again. Dr. Ramsey isn’t just our physician, he’s someone we now consider a dear friend. It was also incredibly meaningful to see some of the same nurses from our first delivery be there for Serenity’s birth. Kristina and Aleceia, two NICU nurses we have become quite close with, even cared for Trinity while Serina was in surgery, which meant so much to us.”
“The care we received was outstanding. Every nurse went above and beyond, ensuring Serina was well-supported and comfortable. From post-partum care to the kindness shown by the NICU team, every moment of our stay felt like being surrounded by family. We sincerely believe HCA Florida Capital Hospital delivers not just exceptional care, but exceptional people.”
“Although our stay was just two days with baby Serenity, it was one of the most smooth and comforting experiences we’ve had. The service, the friendships we’ve built, and the sense of family we feel each time we walk through the doors of HCA Florida Capital Hospital make it truly special. We continue to recommend the hospital and Dr. Ramsey to anyone we know going through a similar journey.”
