HCA Florida JFK Hospital welcomes Dr. Allan M. Birenberg as chief medical officer

Dr. Birenberg’s appointment reflects the hospital’s commitment to advancing complex, high-quality care and expanding its role as a destination for excellence in Palm Beach County and beyond.

Atlantis, FL — HCA Florida JFK Hospital is pleased to announce that Allan M. Birenberg, MD, MBA has been named chief medical officer, effective September 17, 2025.

Dr. Birenberg brings decades of executive and clinical leadership experience to his new role. Most recently, he served as vice president of medical affairs for WellSpan York Hospital, a 600-bed tertiary teaching hospital and flagship facility for the WellSpan Health System in Pennsylvania. In that position, he oversaw a medical staff of more than 850 physicians, fellows, and residents and was responsible for advancing quality, safety, physician engagement, and operational performance across a broad spectrum of specialty services, including trauma, stroke, cardiac, and perioperative care. Under his leadership, WellSpan York Hospital achieved a Leapfrog “A” rating, CMS 4-Star status, and was named among Healthgrades Top 100 Hospitals.

Prior to his time with WellSpan, Dr. Birenberg served as chief medical officer at MedStar Harbor Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was also the designated institutional officer for graduate medical education. Earlier in his career, he led Harbor View Anesthesia Associates as president and managing partner, while also serving as director of anesthesiology at MedStar Harbor Hospital.

Board-certified in anesthesiology, Dr. Birenberg earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine before completing his internship in internal medicine and residency in anesthesiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. He also pursued a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesiology at Mount Sinai and later earned his master of business administration from Loyola College of Maryland.
