Citrus Hospital kicks off cancer survivorship series with nutrition seminar

Seminar series for cancer survivors will begin in March 2024.

February 12, 2024

Inverness, FL — HCA Florida Citrus Hospital will present a series of cancer survivorship seminars in 2024. The quarterly meetings will be held in a relaxing, nurturing environment with a goal of providing tips on staying active and healthy in all aspects of life: before, during and after cancer treatment.

The first seminar of the year is planned for Tuesday, March 12 at 5:30pm in HCA Florida Citrus Hospital’s Gulf Room, located in the hospital’s historic school building at 502 W Highland Blvd in Inverness.

“Maintaining Optimal Nutrition” will be guided by Registered Dietitian Deb Gaviria. Many healthy and nutritious foods help maintain nutritional status and can be modified and prepared to accommodate poor appetite, taste changes, and prevention of weight loss. After cancer treatment, many side effects may go away, making it easier to eat and maintain a healthy weight.  Eating a healthy diet helps with regaining strength and reduces the risk of cancer recurring. Gaviria will discuss improving health and reducing cancer risk with proper nutrition as well as how to maintain good nutritional intake before, during and after cancer treatment.

Cancer survivorship begins at diagnosis and refers to anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer, no matter where they are in the course of their disease. All are welcome to attend. Seating is limited so an RSVP is required. Call (855) 422-8474 or reserve your seat online.
