HCA Florida Blake Hospital performs first renal denervation procedure
As leaders in cardiovascular care, HCA Florida Blake Hospital is further enhancing its capabilities with the launch of a new hypertension program specifically designed for patients whose blood pressure has not improved despite attempts to manage it. The first renal denervation, a minimally invasive procedure that lowers blood pressure in patients with hypertension, was performed at Blake Hospital on September 25, 2025.
High blood pressure is a leading cause of death in the U.S., and impacts nearly half of all adults. A major concern according to physicians, is that about 1 in 5 U.S. adults with high blood pressure aren’t aware they have the condition.
“Resistant hypertension is a very common and very serious health concern,” says interventional cardiologist Christian Zellner, MD. “This new hypertension program will be a life-saving path for many people that gives patients a blood pressure reduction benefit.”
Hypertension is very common, affecting men and women, young and old. Symptoms, if they do occur, can be mild or severe, including early morning headaches, nosebleeds, irregular heartbeat, changes in vision, and buzzing in the ears. When a person has high blood pressure, their heart works harder, which can raise the risk of heart attacks, strokes, heart failure, and kidney failure.
“Our cardiovascular physicians are world-class care providers, and introducing this new program further demonstrates our focus on heart health,” says Steve Young, CEO of HCA Florida Blake Hospital “This program will bring both excellent, proven treatments and peace of mind to our patients.”
