While recovering at home from a lumbar decompression procedure, 73-year-old Roger Barr tested positive for COVID-19. Symptoms of weakness, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting and headache landed him back in the hospital on oxygen.

Twelve days later he began his rehabilitation journey at Orange Park Hospital’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Center. He was excited to go home a short six days later so he could get back home to his wife, whom he enjoys 2-mile walks with, while they share a walkman to keep the same pace.

When asked about his experience at Orange Park Hospital’s Inpatient Rehab, Roger gets emotional. Sharing that it was exceptional. “I’ve been to other rehabs and they were not bad but this was superior,” said Roger.

When asked to recognize colleagues, the list was endless. Emily with housekeeping, Sarah from dietary, Randy and Leigh from therapy, Nurses Anne and Cynthia, and Dr. Aleger who saw him every day .“ Dr. Aleger never made me feel rushed. He spent all the time I needed with me and listened.”

“Everyone helped me prepare so I would be ready to go home. It happened in such a short period of time and now I’m able to walk and even dance!”
