Lifesaver's award was given at Brandon Hospital to honor life-saving stroke care

In the crucial moments, when every second mattered, Lieutenant Wes Carter took the actions that ultimately saved a life. Carter responded to an emergency call that involved a stroke patient.

He made critical decisions at the scene that contributed to the positive outcome of the stroke patient. He brought the patient to HCA Florida Brandon Hospital to receive comprehensive stroke care and then came back to visit. The patient experienced a full recovery due in part to his decisive actions at the moment when the stroke symptoms were present.

Carter embodies what it means to be a public servant — to protect, to heal and to serve with heart.

Lieutenant Wes Carter was honored with the Lifesaver’s Award outside the ambulance entry at Brandon Hospital on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 11:30am. The community gathered for this recognition and hear about the life saving efforts of Lieutenant Carter as well as the actions of the emergency response and stroke teams at Brandon Hospital, a Comprehensive Stroke Center.

The media witnessed Lieutenant Wes Carter being awarded the Lifesaver’s Award for his life-saving care of a stroke patient.  It was a surprise recognition ceremony.
