Englewood Hospital earns national recognition for excellence in stroke and diabetes care
HCA Florida Englewood Hospital has been nationally recognized by the American Heart Association for its commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care for stroke and diabetes patients.
The hospital received three Get With The Guidelines® achievement awards, including the Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. These honors reflect the hospital’s dedication to improving patient outcomes through adherence to the latest clinical guidelines.
“These awards are a testament to the incredible work our care teams do every day,” said Kelly Lindsay, CEO of HCA Florida Englewood Hospital. “We’re not just following protocols—we’re saving lives. Our commitment to excellence means patients in Charlotte and Sarasota counties receive timely, research-backed care that leads to faster recoveries and better long-term health.”
Stroke is the fifth-leading cause of death and a major contributor to disability in the United States. It occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted by a clot or rupture, causing brain cells to die. Early detection and treatment are critical to improving survival rates and reducing long-term effects.
The Get With The Guidelines® program helps hospitals nationwide align patient care with the most current research and evidence-based practices. The Stroke initiative promotes consistent adherence to treatment protocols that can reduce complications and prevent death.
“These awards show Englewood Hospital's commitment to caring for those in their community who need stroke and diabetes care,” said Donald Lloyd-Jones, past volunteer president of the American Heart Association and current volunteer chair of the Association’s Quality Oversight Committee. “By following the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols, Englewood Hospital can help realize our shared vision of improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates — a win for health care systems, families and communities.”
Englewood Hospital also meets rigorous standards as a Primary Stroke Center, offering a comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients in its emergency department.
In 2025, the hospital expanded access to emergency care with the opening of HCA Florida Wellen Park℠ Emergency, located at 7070 S. Tamiami Trail in Venice. The facility operates 24/7 and is equipped to treat strokes, heart attacks, serious injuries, and other life-threatening conditions. The center is staffed by the same specialists trained in emergency medicine that care for you at Englewood Hospital Emergency room at 700 Medical Drive in Englewood.
