Patrick Decker- Back in the air after robotic surgery
Venice resident Patrick Decker is a busy volunteer and active retiree. He and his wife enjoy pickleball, traveling, and hiking, but knee pain was preventing him from doing the activities he loves. Decker is also a retired pilot; he flew commercial airlines for 40 years. He now flies volunteer missions delivering much needed supplies to Haiti. Many people count on him for help, so he knew he needed to do something about the pain.
Decker went to see Venice orthopedic surgeon Tracey Ng, D.O. He learned about the latest robotic-assisted surgical technology Dr. Ng is using at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital for knee replacement. Decker attended a community health lecture at the hospital where he was able to see the robotic technology in action.
Decker had knee replacement surgery in late November. Dr. Ng was able to use the newest orthopedic surgical robot the hospital just received. The robot helps her precisely remove the damaged bone and cartilage and position a new knee implant following a personalized 3D model the system created of Mr. Decker’s knee.
Patrick Decker is now recovering at home and looking forward to getting back to his busy life and back in the air helping the community.
