NFH announces Dr. Sherrie Somers as chief medical officer
Dr. Somers comes to HCA Florida North Florida Hospital from HCA Healthcare's Rapides Regional Medical Center, a 380-bed Level II Trauma Center and Level III NICU and PICU in Alexandria, Louisiana.
HCA Florida North Florida Hospital announced today the appointment of Sherrie Somers, D.O., as Chief Medical Officer for the hospital, its outpatient centers and three free-standing emergency rooms, effective August 1, 2023. Dr. Somers comes to HCA Florida North Florida Hospital from HCA Healthcare’s Rapides Regional Medical Center, a 380-bed Level II Trauma Center and Level III NICU and PICU in Alexandria, Louisiana, where she served as the Chief Medical Officer for the past two years.

Prior to joining Rapides Regional Medical Center, Dr. Somers served as the Medical Director for Hospital Inpatient Teams for New West Physicians in Golden, Colorado for 10 years. She was instrumental in leading six hospitals and three hospital systems through their COVID-19 pandemic disaster planning. Additionally, Dr. Somers has also served her communities in her career as an internal medicine physician in a hospitalist and private practice capacity.
Dr. Somers received her medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. She completed her Internal Medicine internship at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, New York, and then her Internal Medicine residency at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, Colorado.
