St. Petersburg, FL - HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital proudly announces a successful training event hosted in collaboration with the Army’s 343rd Medical Detachment (Air Ambulance) Unit. In January, 23 soldiers received hands-on training in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 1 East Unit. The training, which included dynamic mock-code simulations and specialized equipment such as the IV arm and EKG machine, highlighted the hospital’s commitment to excellence in patient care and community support.

“Our hospital has always valued partnerships that enhance the quality of care we deliver,” said Stephanie Nelson, Director of Emergency Department, HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital. “Welcoming these dedicated soldiers into our clinical environment was an honor, and it allowed our team to share our expertise while supporting military readiness.”

Key highlights of the event included:

  • Comprehensive Clinical Training: Soldiers participated in two daily mock-code scenarios, gaining crucial experience in emergency and critical care practices.
  • Specialized Equipment Utilization: Training sessions featured hands-on use of essential medical tools, including IV arms and EKG machines, vital for practical patient assessment and treatment.
  • Interdisciplinary Learning: In addition to clinical shadowing, the soldiers attended an in-service training session in our auditorium, which was made possible by the advanced equipment provided by the hospital.

“This collaboration reflects our deep commitment to community and service,” added Stephanie. “We are grateful for the opportunity to support our military and to contribute to the preparedness of those who serve our nation.”
