HCA Florida Northside Hospital is now offering a new Left Atrial Appendage (LAA) option as another minimally invasive therapy to treat patients with Atrial Fibrillation who are at risk of stroke. Benefits of the new procedure include immediately eliminating the need for patients to continue taking blood-thinning medications.

For patients who have atrial fibrillation (AFib), left atrial appendage closure may reduce their risk of stroke. This procedure safely seals off a small part of the heart to help prevent blood clots.

“The new device allows us to offer this therapy to patients who were otherwise felt not to be candidates for left atrial appendage occlusion,” stated Dr. Robert Sheppard, Electrophysiologist, HCA Florida Northside Hospital.
