Physical therapy and rehabilitation

Rehabilitation refers to the process of helping a patient recover from a serious injury or illness. Patients often have to regain strength and learn new ways of completing normal, daily activities. Physical therapy, a branch of rehabilitation, focuses on building strength and mobility after disease, injury or surgery.

Our physical rehabilitation specialties

We offer unique, specialized treatment plans to help you reach your highest level of physical functionality.

Occupational therapy

Occupational therapy assesses your ability to function independently. Our occupational therapists address the physical, cognitive and mental challenges accompanying your injury or condition.

Our ultimate goal is to teach you techniques to help you return to participating in your daily activities.

Physical therapy

Physical therapy treatment is aimed at restoring strength and movement. For example, physical rehabilitation can help you restore proper walking, balance and transfer skills.

Speech therapy

Speech therapy evaluates and treats your ability to effectively communicate through speech and language skills.

Our speech therapists also evaluate and treat swallowing disorders to help you eat safely on the least restrictive diet possible. We even offer videofluoroscopic swallow studies to further evaluate swallowing disorders.

If you have Parkinson’s disease or other neurological disorders, you may benefit from techniques we use to improve your voice volume.

Additionally, if you have cognitive issues, you can also receive treatment to improve your communication skills.

Lymphedema therapy and management

Lymphedema is swelling (typically of an extremity) caused by an accumulation of protein-rich waste fluid in the body.

Our team includes certified therapists, trained at the Academy for Lymphatic Studies, and they offer complete decongestive therapy (CDT). The goal of our lymphedema program is to reduce the swelling and help you regain functional independence.

Consult your doctor if you have any signs of infection (redness, rash or fever) or if you have any questions about your lymphedema.

Preventing and controlling lymphedema

The following steps may be used to prevent and control lymphedema:

  • Wear your bandages at night and compression garment(s) during the day.
  • Elevate the affected limb at night.
  • Perform self manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) daily.
  • When traveling by airplane, wrap your extremity with the compression bandages during the flight.
  • Replace compression garments at least every four to six months.

Participate in our physical therapy programs

To be treated by our facility, you will need a prescription from your physician. An intake coordinator will schedule your appointment and verify your insurance.
