HCA Florida Bayonet Point uses new aspiration device — a Pasco County first

Cutting edge technology introduced to Pasco County.

June 13, 2025

Hudson, FL — HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital has achieved a significant milestone in stroke care by becoming the first hospital in Pasco County to perform a thrombectomy using a new stroke system. This cutting-edge technology enhances the hospital's ability to treat acute ischemic strokes by efficiently removing blood clots from blocked arteries.

The procedure was conducted by Dr. Richard Cody an interventional neurologist at Bayonet Point Hospital, who emphasized the importance of timely intervention in stroke treatment. "The Broadway stroke system allows us to remove clots more effectively, which is critical in restoring blood flow to the brain and minimizing potential long-term effects," said Dr. Cody.

The introduction of the new stroke system further solidifies Bayonet Point Hospital's position at the forefront of stroke care in the region. By adopting this state-of-the-art technology, the hospital continues to enhance its capabilities in delivering life-saving treatments to patients experiencing acute ischemic strokes.

Bayonet Point Hospital, a 392-bed acute care facility, has a longstanding commitment to providing advanced neurological care. The hospital is home to the only Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center in Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus counties. In January 2024, the hospital celebrated the performance of its 500th thrombectomy, underscoring its leadership in stroke intervention.
