Wellen Park Emergency deploys advanced CPR device to support lifesaving care

Emergency care nurses and physicians at HCA Florida Wellen Park℠ Emergency now have access to a state-of-the-art chest compression system, a mechanical device that delivers uninterrupted, high-quality CPR for patients in cardiac arrest.

The device enables the emergency team to perform consistent, guideline-compliant chest compressions while freeing clinicians to focus on other critical interventions. It also helps reduce physical strain and injury risk for bedside caregivers.

“It is a fantastic device that allows both the nurses and myself to focus on the patient,” said Dr. Andrew Rudin, DO, emergency medicine physician. “We can spend more time determining what’s causing the cardiac arrest and do the job we need to do. It’s a gold standard in today’s medicine. In some cases, we do CPR for an extended time, and this device ensures the highest quality compressions throughout the process. The device doesn’t get tired.”

The system delivers steady, uninterrupted chest compressions — even during patient transport. It reduces physical strain on caregivers, allows the team to focus on diagnosing and treating the emergency, and can be set up quickly, often in just a few seconds. The device also tracks CPR performance and has been shown to improve blood flow to the brain compared to manual compressions.

Emergency care team members received specialized training to ensure quick and effective use of the device. For Emergency Department Director Maggie Fisher, the investment is about more than technology. “My first priority is to equip our team with the right tools to support the growing need for emergency care and a diverse range of emergencies,” Fisher said.

Compact, lightweight and easy to store, the system is a valuable addition to the emergency department’s toolkit — because in emergency medicine, every second counts.
