St. Petersburg, FL — HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital is proud to announce the opening of its new Progressive Care Unit (PCU), a modern, patient-centered space designed to meet the growing need for intermediate-level care in the community. The unit officially began serving patients on Monday, August 4, 2025.

The Progressive Care Unit offers enhanced clinical capabilities for patients who require close monitoring and specialized attention, but do not need the intensity of an ICU setting. This new addition strengthens the hospital’s ability to deliver high-quality care across a broader spectrum of patient needs.

What the PCU Offers:

  • Advanced monitoring technology to support timely interventions and improved outcomes
  • A dedicated team of experienced nurses and providers trained in progressive care
  • Streamlined coordination between departments to ensure continuity of care
  • Expanded capacity and efficiency, helping reduce wait times and improve patient flow

“The launch of our Progressive Care Unit reflects our commitment to evolving with the needs of our patients and community,” said Rocky Ricapito, chief nursing officer, HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital “This new unit allows us to provide more personalized care while optimizing hospital resources and enhancing the overall patient experience.”

The PCU also creates new opportunities for clinical staff to grow professionally through cross-training and collaboration, reinforcing HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital’s culture of excellence and innovation.
