"I have had fibroadenomas, which are solid, benign breast lumps, for over 15 years. I felt my first lump at 12 years old and was told that I would need to monitor my fibroadenomas for the rest of my life as there is always a possibility that the lumps can turn malignant and grow into breast cancer. I was referred to Dr. Akheel Allen after developing several large lumps in both of my breasts. From my very first appointment with Dr. Allen, I knew that he was an amazing surgeon. He walked me through the entire surgical process for removing my current lumps as well as what the future could look like if I didn’t address the fibroadenomas head on."

"I had my fourth breast surgery at Mercy Hospital under the care of Dr. Allen. The staff at Mercy Hospital went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. The morning of my surgery the Operating Room Director went out of his way to have extra pancakes made for me from an employee breakfast and I found out later that the pancakes were specially made for me by the hospital CEO! The OR nursing staff was by my side throughout the entire pre and post-op period and consistently checked in with me even after I went home."

"Depending on how my fibroadenomas progresses, I may need to remove both of my breasts to prevent the development breast cancer. I never thought that I would be considering a double mastectomy at 28, but Dr. Allen is doing everything he can to ease my fears educate me on all of my options. He has also explained that he works in hand with a plastic surgeon to ensure the best reconstruction possible. I am so grateful to Dr. Allen and the entire Mercy Hospital team for their amazing treatment and kindness. I know that no matter what the future holds, I am in the best possible hands!"
