About Ocala Imaging Center
HCA Florida Ocala Imaging Center is a multi-modality outpatient imaging center under the direction of board-certified radiologists. Proudly serving our community since 1991, our goal is to provide the highest quality care.
Ocala Imaging Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), Mammography, Ultrasound and Breast Ultrasound, and Stereotactic Breast Biopsy. It is designated by ACR as a Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center and Lung Cancer Screening Center. These accreditations and designations assure our patients that we provide the highest level of image quality and safety.
Our imaging services
We offer a range of additional services to meet a variety of medical needs. Our imaging tests aid in robotic surgical planning for joint replacement surgeries, such as the program, PROPHESY, which helps guide surgeons by mating patient-specific tools for ankle replacement surgery.
Body composition scanning is a great tool to help you reach the next level with your fitness goals. The procedure uses dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) to determine an accurate, in-depth analysis of your fat, lean muscle, bone and water mass. Body composition scans can be used to identify health risks and pinpoint problems in the body before they occur. For instance, our whole-body composition tests show visceral fat, which can be linked to metabolic disturbances, such as breast cancer, cardiovascular disease and Type 2 diabetes.
The body composition scan provides:
- Abdominal/visceral fat analysis
- Body mass index (BMI)
- Bone densitometry tests
- Muscle mass breakdown
- Resting metabolic rate
- Relative skeletal muscle index
Benefits of a body composition scan include:
- Accelerate weight loss and fitness goals with targeted measurements
- Identify risks for osteoporosis, osteopenia and hormonal imbalances
- Trended over time to track improvement
We offer services ranging from screening to image-guided diagnostic procedures, including:
- Bone densitometry test — This test, also known as a DEXA scan, uses X-rays to quickly and accurately measure the density of bone. It is primarily used to detect osteopenia or osteoporosis, diseases in which the bone’s mineral and density are low, and the risk of fractures is elevated.
- Computerized tomography (CT) scan — This advanced type of X-ray creates multiple pictures taken in rapid succession from different angles around the body. Then, our 64-slice scanner makes a computerized, cross-sectional view of internal organs.
- Digital X-ray — This type of X-ray uses digital sensors to transmit X-ray images. Images are easily transferred and enhanced to provide a faster, more accurate diagnosis over plain film. Digital X-ray exams do not require an appointment
- Fluoroscopy — This method uses X-rays to create a video of the body as it Is working in real-time. We can evaluate the gastrointestinal tract and joints with fluoroscopy and perform certain fertility tests.
- Ultrasound with color Doppler — This specialized ultrasound is used to create pictures of internal body structures with high blood flow, and it allows doctors to see blood flow direction. The exam is considered the standard of care, especially in seeing organs such as the liver and reproductive organs plus the extremities.
Our women’s imaging services include several tools for breast health. These tests help your doctor identify irregularities so treatment plans can be created for you when they are most effective.
- 3D mammography — A variation of a CT scan, this procedure uses X-rays that scan your breast in an arc, creating multiple images at different angles. The result is a stack of high-definition images that can be combined into a 3D image, offering greater visual details, especially if you have dense breast tissue.
- Breast MRI — This procedure takes pictures of your breast using very powerful magnets and radio waves. Our 1.5T wide, short-bore system, promises sharper imaging, reduced exam time and limited rescanning. The process involves no surgery, radiation or hospitalization, plus has no known side effects. The exam is especially useful in evaluating your health if you have a mutated BRCA1 or BRCA2 breast cancer gene.
- Breast ultrasound — Ultrasounds are especially useful for diagnosing abnormalities not found during a traditional physical exam, mammogram or breast MRI.
- Stereotactic biopsy — A stereotactic breast biopsy uses mammography to help doctors locate abnormalities in your breast tissue as well as remove tissue samples for lab examination. It’s also useful in evaluating calcium deposits or tiny masses not visible by traditional means.
- Ultrasound-guided procedures — Radiologists use ultrasound imaging to guide noninvasive surgical tools to complete procedures. This advanced procedure includes breast biopsies, breast wire localization and cyst aspirations.
We offer two types of lung cancer scans:
- High-resolution CT (HRCT) — This type of diagnostic screening aids in diagnosing pulmonary fibrosis and interstitial lung disease.
- Low-dose screening (LDCT) — This type of CT scan creates multiple, cross-sectional images of the lungs’ internal structure. LDCTs detect many irregularities before symptoms begin and use less radiation than a conventional CT scan. Our team will help determine your eligibility for the screening. We set up a session with you and your primary care doctor. During the session, we explain the procedure’s risks, its benefits and share what to expect during the screening.
- Screening criteria: Low-dose CT screening may be covered by insurance for patients who meet all of the following criteria:
- Adults 50 to 77 years old (Non-Medicare 50 to 80 years old)
- Asymptomatic — no current respiratory or lung cancer symptoms
- No personal history of lung cancer
- Current smoker with a minimum 20-pack-year history
- Former smoker with a minimum 20-pack-year history and quit within the past 15 years
- Physician order and discussion
- To participate in the screening, you must make an appointment with your primary care physician to have a shared decision-making session. Your physician will explain the risks and benefits of the study.
- What to expect during the procedure
- During the LDCT procedure, the patient will be flat on the exam table. Pillows may be used for comfort to help maintain the correct position and help the patient remain still during the exam. The patient will be asked to hold their arms over their head. Next, the table will move through the scanner to the correct scanning starting position. While the patient holds their breath for five to 10 seconds, the table will move through the machine as the LDCT scan is done.
- Will my insurance cover the procedure?
- Screening criteria: Low-dose CT screening may be covered by insurance for patients who meet all of the following criteria:
LDCT screenings are covered under most insurance plans; Medicare or Medicare Advantage typically do not require a co-pay. Check with your insurance provider to be sure. Patients must meet all of the screening criteria.

Finding our imaging centers
We have two locations serving Ocala residents. Our scheduling center team can help you find an appointment convenient for you. Please call and speak with a team member at (352) 867-9606.
- Ocala Imaging Center — Our main outpatient facility provides multiple services and is about 10 minutes away from the main campus at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital in the Tealbrooke Professional Centre. Using state-of-the-art equipment under the direction of board-certified radiologists, we offer the same diagnostic services found in a traditional hospital setting, such as CT scans, mammography, ultrasound and breast ultrasound.
- Ocala MRI Center — Our second location in MRI procedures and is also located at the Tealbrooke Professional Center. Our MRI Center offers the latest in MRI technology. The 1.5T wide/short bore system, promises sharper imaging, and reduced exam time/rescanning. We enhance your experience through noise reduction, motion forgiveness and the elimination of needing to hold your breath.
Medical records
To request a copy of your records and/or a CD of images, please bring your photo ID to our Medical Records Office Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm. To limit your wait time, we recommend calling ahead and requesting the report and/or CD before pick-up. If you are picking up medical records for someone other than yourself, you must be listed on the patient’s HIPAA form or provide a signed letter from the patient stating you have authorization to pick up on their behalf.
If you have questions, please call (352) 867-9606, and select option 3.
