Volunteer services at HCA Florida Blake Hospital

The benefit of volunteering at HCA Florida Blake Hospital is a two-way street. Current research indicates that volunteering is good for your health. People who volunteer live longer, function better and have lower rates of depression. For senior volunteers, the benefits are even more remarkable. But you don't have to take our word for it, read The Health Benefits of Volunteering from the Corporation for National & Community Service.

Our volunteers are dedicated to providing support to the professional staff and quality care to our patients. Based on individual skills and interests, our volunteers are placed in one of 40+ departments. Nursing units, the information desk, the gift shop, the escort team, the golf cart transport department and email services are just some of the areas where volunteers are needed.

We provide all volunteers complete orientation and specific training.

Volunteer acknowledgment

We are truly thankful to all of our volunteers who provide invaluable service to our staff, and we are grateful every day for their many contributions. In addition to providing complimentary meals for every complete four-hour shift completed, we hold a special Volunteer Week once a year. During Volunteer Week, HCA Florida Blake Hospital formally recognizes our volunteers for all the hard work they provide throughout the year. Awards are given for hours and years of service.

Frist Humanitarian Awards

The Frist Humanitarian Awards are considered the highest honor an employee and volunteer can receive at HCA Healthcare, the parent company of HCA Florida Blake Hospital. They are given annually in recognition of the humanitarian spirit and philanthropic work of the late Dr. Thomas F. Frist, SR., a founder of HCA Healthcare. The Frist Humanitarian Awards were created to recognize one employee, one volunteer and one physician at each HCA-affiliated facility who demonstrates extraordinary concern for the welfare and happiness of patients and their community
