Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award 2025

HCA Healthcare West Florida Division announced today that 12 of its hospitals have been recognized as a 2025 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ recipient by Healthgrades, the #1 site Americans use when searching for a doctor or hospital. This achievement reflects the clear commitment to safe, patient-centered care with the following hospitals earning either a top 5% or top 10% national patient safety ranking for short-term acute care hospitals by Healthgrades:

Top 5% National Patient Safety Ranking:

  • HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital
  • HCA Florida Blake Hospital
  • HCA Florida Brandon Hospital
  • HCA Florida Englewood Hospital
  • HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital
  • HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital
  • HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital
  • HCA Florida Trinity Hospital

Top 10% National Patient Safety Ranking:

  • HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital
  • HCA Florida Lehigh Hospital
  • HCA Florida Pasadena Hospital
  • HCA Florida South Shore Hospital

These hospitals were recognized for their commitment to safe, patient-centered care, as the hospitals celebrate Patient Safety Awareness Week (March 9-15, 2025). The recognition reflects the focus on patient safety outcomes, with these hospitals outperforming others in key safety metrics.

“We are very proud to see these results as our hospitals share a dedication to providing safe, high quality accessible healthcare to communities along Florida’s West Coast,” said Jyric Sims, president of HCA Healthcare West Florida Division. “These are just some of the many accolades our hospitals are earning through a strong commitment to our mission, which is, above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.”

Healthgrades evaluated over 4,500 hospitals, assessing risk-adjusted complication and mortality rates. The analysis showed significant gaps between the highest- and lowest-achieving facilities. Between 2021 and 2023, 173,280 preventable safety events occurred among Medicare patients in U.S. hospitals. The annual study found that patients treated in hospitals that received the 2025 Patient Safety Excellence Award have a significantly lower chance of experiencing one of the four leading safety indicators than patients treated at non-recipient hospitals:

  • In-hospital falls resulting in fracture (54% less likely)
  • Collapsed lung due to a procedure or surgery in or around the chest (55% less likely)
  • Pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital (69% less likely)
  • Catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired in the hospital (72% less likely)
